History

From small beginnings, great things can grow. Our story begins as far back as 1945, when a modest family business was formed as a cast manufacturer and jewellery wholesaler.

After years of dedication and industry innovation, 1990 saw a well-established and successful OROAFRICA welcoming Steven Nathan on board as the Financial Director. Eight years later, our continued success led to partnerships with internationally renowned Italian gold jewellery manufacturer, Filk Spa as well as AngloGold Ashanti – one of the world’s largest gold producers.

OROAFRICA’s growth and expansion gave way to business relocation from Johannesburg to Cape Town. This came along with a multi-million rand investment in advanced manufacturing facilities and a brand new head office. This tremendous growth has not changed the principles by which we operate. The family values that were put in place at OROAFRICA’s humble beginnings still remain and epitomise the way we do business to this day.

We are Africa’s leading jewellery company, providing solutions to our customers from independently owned retailers through to national chain stores. Our name continues to transcend borders as we do business with customers in America, Europe, United Kingdom, China, the Middle East and Australia.

In the spirit of giving back to the country that has offered us so much, OROAFRICA is also dedicated to recruiting and training future generations of talented young South Africans in the art of jewellery creation. In collaboration with Ikamva Labantu, we have contributed to township community development by the renovation of township pre-schools. We also for many years supported the Kwela School of music in Soweto, and are always looking for ways to give back.

From a humble start to great expansion, and a firm commitment to the industry in which we operate, OROAFRICA’s story is definitely one that has, and continues to leave its marks.
